🌸 Growing Something New: The 2026 Zinnia Seed Fundraiser

There’s something incredibly exciting about growing a flower from seed when you don’t quite know exactly what that flower is going to become.

That’s especially true when you’re growing from a breeding line.

Every summer, our zinnia patch becomes a little laboratory. We watch plants closely, look for exceptional colors and forms, save seed from our favorite flowers, and then grow those seeds again to see what happens. Some flowers surprise us. Some are almost exactly what we hoped for. And every once in a while, we find something that makes us stop in our tracks.

That’s where our 2026 Zinnia Seed Fundraiser comes in. 🌱

Two Breeding Projects. 100 Seeds. Lots of Possibilities.

This year’s fundraiser pack includes two packets of our breeding-project zinnia seeds, with 50 seeds in each packet.

That gives you 100 seeds total to grow and enjoy.

But these aren’t commercial varieties that have been bred to produce identical flowers. These seeds come from our own breeding work, which means there can be variation from plant to plant.

And honestly?

That’s our favorite part.

You might plant ten seeds and get ten slightly different flowers. One may be a little softer. Another may have more petals. One might be the exact shade of pink we’ve been searching for, while another may surprise us completely.

Growing breeding seed is a little bit like opening a present one flower at a time. 🎁🌸

🌷 The Pastel Breeding Project

Our pastel breeding work is all about those soft, romantic colors that make you want to fill an entire garden with flowers.

Think blush pinks, soft creams, delicate peachy tones and dreamy pastel shades.

We’re selecting plants not only for color, but also for the characteristics that make a great garden and cut flower—beautiful flower form, interesting petal arrangement, strong stems and flowers that make you want to cut just one more bouquet.

The beauty of growing from a breeding project is that you get to see the next generation with us.

Some of the flowers in your garden may look very much like the flowers pictured in our listings. Others may look completely different.

That’s intentional.

We’re not trying to create a perfectly uniform packet. We’re trying to create beautiful possibilities.

💗 The Pinks Breeding Project

If there’s one color we can never seem to get enough of around the farm, it’s pink.

But “pink” isn’t really just one color.

There are so many shades—from the palest whisper of blush to cotton-candy pink, rose, shell pink and deeper rosy tones.

Our Pinks Breeding Project focuses on exploring those variations and selecting the flowers that excite us most.

When you grow these seeds, you may see variations in color, petal form, flower shape and overall plant characteristics.

And that’s exactly what makes them fun.

You aren’t just growing flowers.

You’re growing a little piece of our breeding program.

🌱 How to Grow Your Zinnias

Zinnias are wonderfully easygoing flowers, which makes them a great choice whether you’re an experienced flower farmer or planting your first cutting garden.

When to plant:
Zinnias love warmth. Sow them outdoors after the danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed.

They don’t appreciate cold, wet conditions, so resist the temptation to plant them too early.

How deep?
Plant seeds approximately ¼ inch deep and gently cover with soil.

Sunlight:
Give them plenty of sunshine—ideally 6–8 hours of full sun each day.

Water:
Keep the soil consistently moist while the seeds are germinating. Once your plants are established, water deeply as needed rather than giving them frequent, shallow watering.

Germination:
Under warm conditions, zinnias can germinate quickly—often within 3–7 days.

✂️ Don’t Forget to Cut Them!

One of the wonderful things about zinnias is that the more you cut, the more they give.

Once your plants begin blooming, harvest flowers regularly. Cutting encourages the plants to branch and produce even more stems.

Bring a bucket into the garden and don’t be afraid to cut generously.

A garden full of zinnias is meant to be enjoyed!

Because these seeds come from our breeding projects, we want to encourage you to embrace the unexpected.

Not every flower will look exactly like the parent plant.

That’s actually what we’re looking for when we’re breeding.

We’re selecting, saving, growing and selecting again—generation after generation—to see what beautiful combinations emerge.

You may grow something we’ve seen before.

Or…

You may grow something we’ve never seen before.

And that is the magic of growing from seed.
